The consultant

 

Our Interim CTO consultants operate with global corporate boards through to nimble founding start-ups. The standard start up or even large technology enterprise uses a lot of different technologies to bring their product to market. This could range from mobile to machine learning to search to enterprise infrastructure to enterprise applications. Our consultants operate with a co-opted, interim, advisory or supervisory mandate, within an organization, having ultimate responsibility for all technology policy and related matters such as research and development (R&D). They oversee current technology, create relevant strategies/ policies and operate with CEOs/CFOs/COO to sell the company’s products or services. They have or manage the business knowledge necessary to align technology-related decisions with the organization's goals. Becoming the company’s technical evangelist and leader for engineers/maintainers of the technical culture.

The mission for the interim CTO can be summarised across three axes:

 

A) Fiduciary for Long-Term Technical Strategy:

 

  • Effectively hold, develop, articulate, and continually evolve the company’s strategic technical direction.

  • Responsible for making sure the company continues to have the best technology offering in a dynamically-evolving highly-competitive space.

  • Brings the proper balance between business and technology strategy by effectively connecting the outside world with the inside through distilling information into the key trends that indicate where the company needs to go next, thus aligning the company’s technology strategy with its business strategy.

  • Participation in fund raising and PE investment management, including: business/technical/vision presentations, financial planning, 'Marchitecure' creations and network selling.

 

B) Technical Evangelist:

 

  • Inspire/excite people internally around the long-term vision of the company, as well as convince outsiders that this is where the world is going to be, and that his/her company is the best choice to take them there.

  • Speak with authority about the market needs, be credible with customers, and able to articulate the business value and ROI to a variety of audiences.

 

C) Cultural leader for the engineers and maintainer of the technical culture:

 

  • Rally the engineering organisation towards the long-term technical goals of the company.

  • Inspire new engineers to join the engineering organisation and helping in the sourcing/identification of such talent.

  • Set and maintain the technical culture to make sure the company can continue to retain and attract top technical talent.

 

Mandate

 

The specifics of the interim CTOs job vary from one organisation to another. Here are a few typical items in an interim CTO mandate:
